Words, words, words. Opportunities for writers & poets!

Just a quick blurb about some local opportunities for those of you who love words.

NaNoWriMo: National Novel Writing Month is November 1-30. There is no judging, and no "real" contest, except for the challenge  between you and your muse in completing a 50,000 word novel in 30 days. I have done NaNoWrMo three times and have been a "winner" twice. That just means I completed the word count in the 30-day period. There will be a casual informational gathering at The Safety Harbor Library on October 11th from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Come out and learn more about National Novel Writing Month and how you can get started on YOUR novel! www.nanowrimo.org

There will be more posted on Safety Harbor Writers and Poets on Facebook. Just LIKE the page to be included in updates: www.facebook.com/safetyharborwritersandpoets

Get Published in the Park!  Submit your very short story (3 paragraphs max), a line, or poem, to have the opportunity to be published in the park! Elf Tree Park, adjacent to the Safety Harbor Library has 3 benches that need redecorated. Safety Harbor Writers and Poets have been given 2 of these benches to decorate with bright red paint and the words of local writers and poets. For more information, and more on the guidelines, read http://www.articulatesuncoast.com/blogs/film-literature/11-film-literature/133-get-published-in-the-park

Writers and Poets Open Mic Night:
Every third Thursday of the month writers and poets have the opportunity to read, sing, or recite their original works of word art at Cafe Orlando, 500 Main Street in Safety Harbor. Everyone gets 5 minutes of uninterrupted time, with optional written "positively-stated"  feedback. It's a lot of fun and a great way to meet like-minded people.

Writing Classes:
The Safety Harbor Museum and Cultural Center will be offering writing classes as soon as they open, and possibly sooner! Deb Klein will be teaching a class on humor writing and Laura Kepner will be teaching a creative writing class. Also, the Story Circle Writers Group meets every 3rd Wednesday of the month at the Library, and there is now a new opportunity for folks outside of the Harbor. Jan Golden will be hosting the Story Circle Writers at the Largo Library beginning this month.
